Nurturing Inner Strength: Overcome Self-Doubt

I wonder how many of you are struggling with uncertainty and self-doubt. It can be triggered by menopause or other adverse experiences, which could include any life event or traumatic experience. Even the physical changes of aging can impact us. It can make us feel anxious, insecure, and hopeless or experience mood swings, low energy, panic attacks, and isolation.

It can stop us from pursuing our dreams, expressing our true selves, and living our best lives. I want to reassure you that there are ways to overcome self-doubt and build self-confidence.

However, self-doubt is not a permanent or fixed state of mind. It is a challenge that we can overcome with some simple and effective strategies.

So, in this blog post, I want to share some wellness tips that can help you overcome self-doubt and nurture your inner strength to boost your well-being.

Follow good health guidelines.

Your physical health affects your mental health, and vice versa; this includes your diet because your gut health affects your brain health. Taking care of your body can help you feel more confident and energetic. Some of the excellent health guidelines that you can follow are:

  • Try to exercise at least 15-30 minutes 3-5 times a week. Exercise can improve mood, reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance self-esteem.
  • Eat healthy fats, lots of vegetables and some fruit. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber, which can boost your immune system, prevent diseases, and improve your digestion.
  • Limit your sugar and white flour intake and processed foods. They can increase your blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation levels, negatively affecting your mood, energy, and brain function.
  • Stretch every day and try to exercise at least 10-20 minutes or more a day most days. Taking care of your body can help you feel more confident and energetic.

Do things you enjoy

Doing things you enjoy can help you relax, have fun, and appreciate yourself. It can also help you discover your strengths, passions, and talents. Some of the things you can do to enjoy yourself are:

  • Make a list of things you like to do. It can be anything from reading a book, listening to music, playing a game, gardening, cooking, or anything else that makes you happy.
  • Try to do something from that list every day. Even if it’s just for a few minutes, it can make a big difference in your mood and well-being.
  • Spend time with people who make you happy. They can be your friends, family, or anyone who supports, encourages, and makes you laugh.

Practice Gratitude

Practicing Gratitude can help you cultivate a more optimistic and realistic outlook. It can also help you recognize your achievements, opportunities, and resources. Some of the ways you can practice Gratitude are:

  • Journal Practice with a strong focus on Gratitude. Write down three things you are grateful for every day.
  • Express your appreciation to others. Thank them for their help, kindness, or presence in your life. You can do this verbally, in writing, or with a gesture.
  • Notice the positive aspects of your life and yourself. Reflect on your achievements and recognize the opportunities and resources emerging for you. Remember the times when you overcame self-doubt and succeeded. Instead of focusing on what you lack or want to change, focus on what you have and what you like about yourself.

Challenge negative thoughts

Challenging negative thoughts can help you break the cycle of self-doubt and self-criticism. It can also help you develop a more positive and empowering self-image. Some of the steps you can take to challenge negative thoughts are:

  • Identify the negative thought. When you think or say something negative about yourself, stop and replace it with something opposite or realistic. For example, “I can’t do this,” “I’m not good enough,” or “I don’t deserve this.”
  • Question the negative thought. Ask yourself if it is true. Does this thought service me? For example, “Is this true?”, “What evidence do I have for this?” or “How does this help me?”.
  •  Look in the mirror and speak words of positivity into your life, such as “I Love You! I am worthy. I am capable. I am enough!” We want to rewire your mindset and turn self-doubt into self-love. Try incorporating this practice into your daily routine multiple times daily and notice the positive shift in your mood and an empowering self-image.

Seek help when needed.

If you feel overwhelmed by self-doubt or other emotions, don’t hesitate to reach out to someone you trust, such as a friend, family member, or professional. You are not alone, and there is no shame in asking for support. Seeking help can help you cope with your challenges, gain new perspectives, and find solutions. Some of the ways you can seek help are:

  • Talk to someone you trust. Share your feelings, thoughts, and concerns with them. Listen to their advice, feedback, or encouragement. You can ask them to be your accountability partner, mentor, or cheerleader.
  • Seek professional help. Suppose you feel that your self-doubt is affecting your mental health, well-being, or performance. You may benefit from seeing a therapist, counselor, or coach in that case. They can help you identify the root causes of your self-doubt, provide you with tools and strategies to overcome it and support you on your journey to well-being and success.
  • Join a support group. You can find people who have overcome similar challenges and learn from their experiences, insights, and tips. You can also find a sense of belonging, community, and empathy.

These are some wellness tips I use to overcome self-doubt and boost my well-being in 2024. I hope you find these well-being tips helpful and try them out. Remember, you are unique, capable, and worthy. Don’t let self-doubt stop you from living your best life.

To inspire you further, I want to share with you one of my favorite quotes on overcoming self-doubt:

“Don’t let others tell you what you can’t do. Don’t let the limitations of others limit your vision. If you can remove your self-doubt and believe in yourself, you can achieve what you never thought possible.” – Roy T. Bennett.
